The article investigates the artistic modifications of the city's image in the Ukrainian and English prose of the interwar period as an existential space of human existence. It has been proved that in the analyzed works, the urban text is marked by the existentials of sadness, melancholy, fear, boredom, and death, which mark the borderline situation of existential choice. 'Living in the city' as the 'experience of the city' is the foundation of the formation of the characters' own experience, and hence, their transition to a new level of self-awareness.uk_UA
